Managing user permissions can be one of the more intricate parts of system administration when setting up Business Central (BC). Luckily, Microsoft simplified this setup and maintenance issue by creating Security Groups – a joint effort between Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Azure Active Directory) and Business Central that makes managing user permissions a breeze.

It’s ‘that’ time of year again and you’ve just been handed a list of reports the auditors have asked for and you start scrambling. You know they have to be here somewhere in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central list of available reports but which one will fit the requirement?

No need to ask for it—today, we are going to discuss permissions in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

The change log has been part of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for many years. The change log can track modifications/insertions/deletions of data in the system, including who and when, as well as what the data in the field was before the change was made. Not only is this a great audit tool but also helps if someone makes a mistake and overwrites a customer name for instance – you may have noticed that there is no save or undo button in Business Central.

Many of us at Ternpoint Solutions have worked on both the client and the partner side of implementations, which has helped generate this guide.

Since Business Central (NAV, Navision) does not have a ‘hard’ monthly close, the allowable posting date range is controlled through setup. These date setups can be on User Setup, General Ledger Setup and/or Inventory Periods (if used). We will discuss a couple of examples of how dates are used.

As Microsoft continues to regularly update and improve Business Central, it can be hard to keep track of the changes that are coming and how they might affect your business.
